Credits and licences

eThorns is built on open-source libraries and fonts, and a few public services. Each one is listed here with its licence and its source. The library files are served from our own server, never loaded from someone else's.

Libraries

  • pdf.js 6.3.289 (pdfjs-dist) by Mozilla, for PDF previews, PDF to JPG and signing. Apache License 2.0: licence · source. It includes decoders built from OpenJPEG, JBIG2 (from PDFium) and qcms, each under its own licence: OpenJPEG, JBIG2, qcms, and pdf.js's notes for each (1, 2, 3).
  • pdf-lib 1.17.1 by Andrew Dillon, for merging, splitting, JPG to PDF and signing. MIT License: licence · source.
  • jsQR 1.4.0, for reading QR codes when the browser can't. Apache License 2.0: licence · source.
  • qrcode-generator 1.4.4 by Kazuhiko Arase, for making QR codes. MIT License, in the file's header · source.
  • libheif-js 1.23.2, for HEIC to JPG. It is libheif 1.23.2 with the libde265 decoder, compiled to JavaScript. GNU Lesser General Public License v3: LGPL-3.0, which builds on the GPL-3.0. Source code for this exact build: libheif-js 1.23.2, libheif-emscripten v1.23.2, libheif v1.23.2, and libde265 v1.0.15, the version its build script uses. It's loaded as a separate file (/vendor/libheif/libheif-bundle.js), so it can be swapped for a modified build.

Services and data

  • Have I Been Pwned by Troy Hunt: the leaked-password check uses its Pwned Passwords range API (only the first 5 characters of a hash are sent).
  • Cloudflare: public DNS over HTTPS (1.1.1.1) for the DNS tools, and the network that delivers this site.
  • Public DNS resolvers asked by the DNS propagation check: Cloudflare, Google, Quad9, OpenDNS (Cisco), AdGuard, CleanBrowsing, Level3 (Lumen), Control D, Hurricane Electric and Yandex.
  • Domain registries, through RDAP (or WHOIS where there is none), for domain ages.
