Lorem ipsum generator (Latin or Spanish-style)

Generate lorem ipsum placeholder text by paragraphs, sentences or words, in classic Latin or a Spanish-looking style with accents and ñ.

Runs on your deviceRuns entirely in your browser: nothing you type or upload leaves your device.

How to use it

  1. Choose how many paragraphs, sentences or words you need (up to 100 paragraphs, 500 sentences or 5,000 words).
  2. Pick classic Latin or the Spanish-looking style, and whether to start with “Lorem ipsum…”.
  3. Press Copy and paste the text into your design. The text is generated in your browser.

Filling a layout before the real text exists

A website, a flyer, a menu or a presentation template usually gets designed before anyone has written the final text. Placeholder text fills the boxes so you can judge line length, spacing and how many words fit, without people stopping to read and comment on the words themselves.

If the final text will be in Spanish, the classic Latin can mislead you. Spanish has accents, ñ and ü, and long words such as "información" or "desarrollo". The Spanish-looking style uses real Spanish words, so a font without ñ or a headline that breaks badly shows up early.

What you get: an example

Ask for 3 paragraphs. Each paragraph has 4 to 7 sentences, and each sentence 6 to 14 words, so 3 paragraphs come to roughly 70 to 300 words, different every time you press Generate again. Paragraphs are separated by a blank line, which design and word-processing programs usually keep when you paste.

With the start option ticked, the first sentence is always Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit., so anyone can tell at a glance it's placeholder text. For a field with a word limit, choose Words instead: 50 words gives exactly 50, which is handy for testing a card, a caption or a product description box.

Catching placeholder text before it goes live

Placeholder text left on a live page makes it look unfinished to visitors and to search engines. The Latin version is easy to catch: search the page for "lorem" before publishing. The Spanish-looking version is harder, because words like "canción" or "proyecto" look real at a glance. Keep the "Lorem ipsum" start, or mark placeholder blocks in another colour, so none of it slips through.

The Spanish-looking text is random words, not grammar, so don't use it to check spelling, hyphenation rules or reading level. For that, use a real paragraph from your own content.

FAQ

What is lorem ipsum?

Scrambled Latin taken from De finibus bonorum et malorum, a work by Cicero from 45 BC. Printers and designers use it as placeholder text so a layout can be judged without the real content distracting the reader.

Why use the Spanish-looking style?

Spanish words tend to be longer than English ones, and they use accents and ñ. Testing with it shows how your layout and font handle real Spanish copy.

Can I use the text freely?

Yes. It's random words picked from a short list of ordinary Latin or Spanish words, so there's no author's text in it to credit.

Is the Spanish-looking text real Spanish?

The words are real, but the sentences aren't: they are picked at random, so the text has the look and rhythm of Spanish without meaning anything. That's the point: it shows how Spanish looks in your design without anyone trying to read it.

When is real text better than lorem ipsum?

When the length of the content changes the design: product names, headlines, prices, buttons and error messages. A real long product name or a Spanish button label like "Continuar con el pago" will reveal problems that filler text hides. Use lorem ipsum for body text, and real samples for everything short and important.
