Tool 7.3

Colombian net salary and payroll calculator

Work out take-home pay in Colombia from the gross monthly salary: health and pension deductions, the solidarity fund and the transport allowance, line by line.

Runs on your deviceRuns entirely in your browser: nothing you type or upload leaves your device.

An informational estimate; not legal, employment or tax advice.

How to use it

  1. Select the applicable calendar year (2026 or 2025) and enter your gross monthly salary in Colombian pesos.
  2. The transport allowance is added automatically when the salary is up to 2 SMMLV (minimum monthly wages); untick it if you don't receive it.
  3. Read the deductions for health, pension and the solidarity fund, line by line, and the net pay at the top.

From gross to net on a Colombian payslip

A job offer in Colombia usually quotes the gross salary (salario bruto). What reaches your account is the net salary (salario neto): the gross minus the contributions the employer withholds for health and pension, plus the transport allowance if you earn up to 2 SMMLV (minimum monthly wages).

Type the gross monthly salary and pick the year. The tool lists the health and pension deductions, the Pension Solidarity Fund when it applies, the transport allowance and the net pay, so you can check a payslip (desprendible de pago) or compare two offers. The calculation runs in your browser.

Example: net pay on one minimum wage in 2026

Consider an employee hired by the fictional company tienda-ejemplo.co with a gross monthly salary of 1 SMMLV for 2026: $1,750,905. Because this amount does not exceed 2 SMMLV ($3,501,810), the worker is legally entitled to the statutory transport allowance (auxilio de transporte) of $249,095.

The transport allowance isn't salary: it only counts toward statutory social benefits (prestaciones sociales: prima de servicios and cesantías; Ley 1 de 1963, art. 7), so it stays out of the base for social security contributions. The mandatory 4% health contribution (EPS) is calculated on the base salary: 4% of $1,750,905 is $70,036. The mandatory 4% pension contribution (AFP) is also $70,036. Because the salary is below 4 SMMLV, the Pension Solidarity Fund (FSP) does not apply ($0). Total employee deductions equal $140,072. Adding the transport allowance yields the final take-home pay: $1,750,905 − $140,072 + $249,095 = $1,859,928.

The solidarity fund, the 25 SMMLV cap and withholding tax

For higher earners, the Fondo de Solidaridad Pensional (FSP) adds an extra contribution starting at 4 SMMLV. In 2026 the table is the one of Ley 100 de 1993 and Ley 797 de 2003: 1.0%, rising to 2.0% above 20 SMMLV. The 2024 pension reform (Ley 2381 de 2024), which the Corte Constitucional upheld for the most part in Sentencia C-264 de 2026, raises it to between 1.5% and 3.0% from 1 April 2027. Contributions are also capped: health, pension and the FSP are charged on at most 25 SMMLV, however high the salary.

The calculator doesn't include income tax withheld at source (retención en la fuente sobre ingresos laborales). Withholding depends on personal tax deductions, prepaid medicine, dependents, and voluntary pension savings under Article 383 of the Estatuto Tributario; consult the official DIAN portal (dian.gov.co) for individual tax tables. Non-statutory payroll deductions such as cooperative loans (libranzas) or court-ordered garnishments (embargos) are also omitted.

FAQ

What percentage is deducted from an employee's salary in Colombia?

Standard dependent employees contribute 4% of their monthly base salary to health (EPS) and 4% to pension (AFP). High earners with salaries of 4 SMMLV or more contribute an additional 1% to 2% to the Fondo de Solidaridad Pensional.

Who is entitled to the transport allowance (auxilio de transporte)?

Employees who earn up to 2 monthly legal minimum wages (SMMLV) receive the transport allowance by law, provided the employer does not supply dedicated door-to-door transportation.

Does the transport allowance count towards health and pension deductions?

No. The transport allowance isn't salary for this purpose, so it stays out of the contribution base (Ingreso Base de Cotización, IBC) on which the 4% for health and the 4% for pension are calculated.

Why is my payslip different from this result?

The calculator assumes a full month at a fixed salary. A real payslip may also include overtime, night or holiday surcharges, commissions, days lost to sick leave, retención en la fuente, loans paid through payroll (libranzas) or garnishments (embargos). Retención depends on each person's deductions, such as dependents, prepaid medicine and voluntary pension savings; its tables are on the DIAN website.

What is the Pension Solidarity Fund (FSP)?

The FSP is a mandatory additional contribution required from employees earning 4 SMMLV or more to subsidize pension coverage for vulnerable and low-income populations across Colombia.
