Tool 6.9

Rotate PDF pages and save them upright

Turn every page of a PDF, or only the ones you choose, 90° either way or 180°, and save the file that way. It runs in your browser; the PDF isn't uploaded.

Runs on your deviceRuns entirely in your browser: nothing you type or upload leaves your device.

How to use it

  1. Drop the PDF, or click to choose it. A numbered preview of each page appears below.
  2. Choose the turn: 90° clockwise, 180° (upside down) or 90° counterclockwise.
  3. Leave Pages to rotate empty to turn every page, or type some, like 1, 3-5. Click Rotate and download.

Scans that come out sideways, and stay sideways

A scanner's sheet feeder or a phone scanning app can save a page on its side or upside down, and a wide table in a portrait report often ends up lying down. Turning the view in most PDF readers only changes your screen: the file stays the same, and whoever you send it to sees it crooked.

This tool changes the rotation each page is stored with, so the page opens upright in any reader, on a phone or at the print shop. It works in your browser; the PDF isn't uploaded.

Example: page 3 of a lease, scanned on its side

contrato.pdf has 5 pages, and page 3, a plan of the property, was scanned on its side. Drop the file: in the previews, page 3 is lying down. Choose 90° clockwise, type 3 in Pages to rotate and click Rotate and download.

You get contrato-rotated-3.pdf, and the status line shows 1 page and the file size: only page 3 was turned. The previews keep showing the file as you dropped it, so open the download to check. If the plan is now upside down, it needed the other direction: drop the downloaded copy and turn page 3 by 180°. Each rotation adds to the one the page already has.

What rotating changes, and what it doesn't

Only each page's rotation setting changes. Text stays text, scans aren't recompressed, and the file usually weighs about the same. It turns whole pages in quarter turns: a photo that is crooked inside a page stays crooked, and a page scanned slightly tilted can't be straightened here.

A PDF that asks for a password, or is protected against changes, can't be opened here: open it with its password and save or print a copy without one, or use Remove PDF password, which uses our server. Rotating rewrites the file, so a certificate-based digital signature inside it stops validating.

FAQ

How do I rotate just one page of a PDF?

Type its number in Pages to rotate, like `3`, or several pages and ranges, like `1, 3-5`. The other pages keep the orientation they had.

Which way do I turn a page lying on its side?

Clockwise moves the top of the page to the right. If the top of the page points left, choose 90° clockwise; if it points right, 90° counterclockwise; if the page is upside down, 180°.

I rotated the PDF in my reader, but it's still sideways for others. Why?

Many readers only turn the view on your screen and don't change the file, or only change it if you save a new copy. Rotate the pages here and send the file you download.

Can I turn some pages one way and others the other way?

Not in one go: each download applies one turn to the pages you typed. Rotate the first group, drop the downloaded copy and rotate the second group.

Does rotating lower the quality?

No. Nothing is redrawn or recompressed; only the rotation setting of each page changes.
